Playboy was founded in the year 1953. The company has been operational for over 65 years now. The founder of the company was Hugh Hefner. The first issue of the company’s magazine was out in the month of December of 1993. The magazine was sold out in weeks, and it had a known circulation of almost 54,000. From the year 1966 to the year 1976, the Fiction Editor at Playboy was Robie Macauley. During the 1970s, the company had noticed a reduction in overall sales and circulation, due to the increase in the number of magazines and also the company’s competitors as well. Some of the competitors included FHM, Penthouse, Maxim, Stuff, Gallery, etcetera. In the year 1988, the head of the company was Hugh Hefner’s daughter, Christie Hefner.
