Kmart History

Kmart was founded in the year 1999. The company has been active for almost 120 years now. The founder of the company was SS Kresge. The founder of the company started to invest in five and dime stores, and therefore in the year 1897, the first SS Kresge stores were established. By the year 1912, the company had almost 85 stores, which had increased to nearly 597 stores by the end of the year 1929. In the year 1918, the company was transformed into a limited public entity and started trading on the New York Stock Exchange. The first Kmart store was opened by the company in the year 1962. Also, more than eighteen stores opened that day as well.
