Four Teams with a Point to Prove In the Premier League This Season

The new Premier League season always brings a sense of new beginnings. The previous campaign can be washed away and attention can be turned to the next chance for success — and plenty of teams will be eager to move on from disappointments suffered last season.

As fans eagerly examine the premiership odds, let’s take a look at four clubs who will feel they have plenty to prove in the top flight this season.

Arsenal

For a long period last season, Arsenal looked all but certain to secure a return to the Champions League, before arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur eventually pipped them to the post in the final throes of the campaign. As a result, this will be a massive season for the Gunners, who will be keen to build on the good work Mikel Arteta has done at the club over the last year and a half.

Arsenal have made some interesting acquisitions over the summer, notably bringing in Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City. Both of those players know what it’s like to win trophies on a regular basis, and will help provide a bit of quality and experience to the ranks. Arsenal are sure to be a reliable pick in the Premier League score predictions each week.

Leicester City

The 2021-22 campaign was a bit of a damp squib for Leicester City. After coming so close to Champions League qualification in the previous two seasons, it felt as though the energy had been drained out of the squad in many ways. This season, the aim is to recapture the magic of times gone by, and Brendan Rodgers will be keen to get his team playing with a bit more consistency.

It’s been a challenging summer with very little in the way of new arrivals, but that could ultimately galvanise the team. The only business to attend to is replacing Nice-bound Kasper Schmeichel, ending an 11 year stay with the Foxes. If Rodgers can get them playing the kind of football we know Leicester are capable of, then the good times could soon return to the King Power Stadium.

Everton

It’s fair to say that everyone associated with Everton will be keen to forget the 2021-22 season as quickly as possible. The appointment of Rafael Benítez as manager was an unpopular with supporters, and disappointing results on the pitch could not justify the Spaniard holding the reins at Goodison Park.

Benítez was shown the exit door, and although form did not immediately improve under replacement Frank Lampard, Everton eventually did enough to avoid the drop. Now, the challenge is to get back to the kind of position a club as big as Everton should be in. Lampard still has a lot to prove as a manager, and his players will be desperate to show they are better than last term’s poor results indicate.

Nottingham Forest

After a lengthy absence from the English top flight, Nottingham Forest are back in the Premier League and eager to make an impact. Most will have them as automatic picks to drop straight back down to the Championship, but Steve Cooper’s men will be readying themselves to fight until the very end.

Forest have made some shrewd acquisitions in the summer transfer window, notably Manchester United pair Jesse Lingard and Dean Henderson. They’ll need a bit of luck if they are to survive, but Forest will be desperate to prove that they belong at English football’s top table.
