The former name of the company was Bed’n Bath. In the year 1985, the founders of the company were already operating 17 stores in New York and California, USA. The same year, the first superstore was also opened by the company as well, in order to remain competitive with Luxury Linens, Linens’s Things and Pacific Linen. The name of the company was changed to Bed Bath & Beyond in the year 1987. In the year 1993, the company had adopted computer-based inventory management, so that it can compete with Linens’n Things, which had already implemented computer-based inventory management in the 1980s.
